We just had our well-baby visit with our pediatrician, and I can safely say our second is well on his way to being a big, fat baby. 21 pounds, 28 inches long, and off-the-charts head size. And I do mean off-the-charts. No, really. When I looked at the chart, his head was not on it.
Compared to our elder boy, who was 21 pounds, 29 inches at FIVE months, this one is a skinny Minnie. I can't imagine why, since it seems like I'm feeding him around the clock breastmilk. I'd better bulk this baby up soon or people will start talking. After all, I am well known around the neighborhood for having humongous children.

So, I'm NOT Having a 20 Pound Baby?
I only gained 9 ounces in two weeks...so sayeth my doctor. Woo! Now THAT'S more like it, people.
Everything looked right on track at the appointment. The doc measured the belly, felt around for the head and positioning, and had a little chat with the boy-to-be. All in all, a fairly uneventful appointment. Nothing to see here...move along, move along.
However, before she kicked us to the curb, I asked my pre-written post-it note questions and she answered them succinctly:
1) Do I have to sleep on my left side? Well, yes, but not completely rolled over, if that's uncomfortable. Just prop yourself up with a pillow. A slight angle is fine.
2) Do I have a weird cancerous lump in my breast? Hmm...probably not, but let's make a note of it and check to see if it has changed in two weeks. It's hard to discern with your breasts being 9 months pregnant.
3) Any recommendations on a pediatrician? Someone I need to bribe? Nope...they're all great. However, there were a few mentioned...no hints. I want him/her all to myself. And she/he has to be tolerant of major anxiety and/or speak the language of crazy fluently.

Weigh In at Almost 32 Weeks
Weight...172. I've gained 3 pounds since my last weigh in a month ago. I took a breath and asked the doctor if I was a big fat cow. She said absolutely not.
I've gained 28 pounds in 32 weeks. If I'm not a big fat cow, I'm definitely 8 months pregnant.
Doc said, "You're doing fine. You should be a little careful, but just a LITTLE careful about what you eat at this point. You're not terribly over the line, but by the time you give birth, you'll just have that much more weight to lose if you do gain much more than 30 pounds."
Hum. Not what I was thinking. I was thinking, "Is there Jenny Craig for pregnant women?" After all, men keep telling me I look "HUMONGOUS" and "HUGE." It's not something you want to hear when you're gaining weight by the bucketloads for no other reason other than there's this little alien inside you.
And there really isn't any other reason. Sure, I've had the occasional craving for cake. But I have been watching what I've been eating, thanks to the acupuncturist who has sworn off sugar and dairy products for me. I eat mainly vegetables, salads, and protein. Do I snarf down an In N Out burger every now and again? Sure. But I've been good...honest.
So I'm thinking all this weight...fluid, placenta and big ol' baby. Or I'm giving birth to a sasquach. Either way, this weight has to be here for a REASON, dammit.
